Due to rain and wet weather no work was able to be done by the Friends for the past two weeks, but today (2 April 2023) the forecast was overcast with sunny periods – no sun! But it did not rain!
Just Alan, Dave and Chris in today, the girls were busy with their grandchildren.
The task today was to level up the Newswag 10-46 grave following the work done by Fine Memorials. The boys set to work moving earth around the base and levered up and packed the landing until it was level. All went well.
The earth was then placed back around the landing and a photo taken. All that is left to do is to cement the kerbs back into place and give the memorial stones a bit of a clean up.
The boys were well pleased with their efforts today.
We also had a visitor who had recently asked about his relatives that were buried somewhere in the cemetery, Rita had researched and found a number of possibilities of his relatives as he was not sure how their surname was spelt. Alan gave him the information Rita had gathered and suggested he checked the names and dates to see if they corresponded with his relatives. He will contact Rita if he has any further queries or arrange a visit to be shown where his relatives graves are located,
As Alan and Chris were leaving they saw a couple picking a bunch of daffodils from the front of the cemetery, they were quite annoyed when asked to stop as they said it was only daffodils!
