Diary: Sunday 13 August 2023

Dave, Chris A., Astrid, Rita and Alan in the cemetery today (13 August 2023)

The lads main job was to cement back kerbs and posts on a number of graves mostly in Plan 8. Starting on the Holman 4-22, one end kerb and two posts fitted back into position. Next Perrett 8-4 cemented broken kerb back together and kerb into position.

Moving on to the Mellows 8-6 the front red granite kerb and posts cemented back together. Finally the Taylor grave a much bigger job as all the kerbs and posts were loose and apart, all went well and the kerbs and posts cemented back in place.

Dave dug out the weeds from the Coombs 7-55 double grave while Chris A used the left over cement to fill cracks in the corner joints of the Burt grave 7-54.

Meanwhile Astrid and Rita worked hard along the bottom end of the Pantomime wall where ivy had been cut down from the wall, this was cut up and cleared, a dumpy bag was filled with the debris of the ivy plus elder saplings growing around a nearby tree. The long grass was trimmed along the side of the wall where the buddleia cuttings had been planted, there is about 7 or 8 that has survived and doing well. The grass and nettle clippings were raked up and this filled another dumpy bag.

Astrid planted a few more wild flowers in the new wild flower area while Rita showed Chris where it is thought a grave belonging to his wife’s relatives maybe, unfortunately no grave marker but there is a grave next to it, not in good condition, kerbs and posts have sunk and overgrown with grass. Another job on our long list of to do’s.
