A lovely sunny day, Rita, Dave and Alan in the cemetery today (3 September 2023).

Alan and Dave worked on the Godfrey 14-9 grave where kerbs and posts had come apart due to time and the landing had sunk down one side. It was not practical to level the landing as there was a great risk of the landing breaking. All the old cement joints had been removed on previous visits, the job today was to cement the posts and kerbs back together. Before starting this the drainage holes that let the rain water out were cleared. The cementing went really well and it was not long before they were back together. Plastic bags were placed over the posts to protect the joints from drying too quickly.

They then went over to the hedge bordering one of the neighbours house. The owners had done a nice job of cutting back the hedge on the cemetery side and the Yew tree branches that were encroaching into their property. They had also cleared all the cuttings away, that was very much appreciated.

Rita decided that it was time the graves at the front of the cemetery as you enter the gates needed to be weeded, particularly as in a couple of weeks the Friends have arranged to be ‘open’ for Heritage Day. (Saturday 16 September – 2 tours 10.30 and 12.30). She managed to clean up a good few and remembered to take before and after photo’s.

The Team left a little earlier than usual as it was getting too hot! But we won’t grumble about that!
