Chris, Dave, Alan and Rita in the cemetery today (2 March 2025), cold and frosty on arrival, too cold to do cementing, so decided to stay in the sun and trim back brambles and clean ivy off graves in plan 9.
Within an hour everyone was sweating in the heat!
Alan and Rita got stuck in cutting back the brambles tangled up in the hedgerow, not an easy task pulling them out as they were 1” (25mm) in diameter. Still more work to do here.
Chris decided to clear the ivy off the Hendy 9-29, Tredwin 9-28 and Greenwood 9-27 he did a great job, again a bit more to do as the stone chipping needs to be sifted through and cleaned. He had assistance from Dave who had been helping Alan and Rita. The Tredwin grave kerbs and posts have have been pushed out of position and it was agreed this would be cemented back together when the weather gets warmer. The work that Chris and Dave did has made a huge difference to the area which can be seen in the before and after photos. A good days work with five dumpy bags filled. Many thanks to the Bridgwater Council team for emptying the 20 dumpy bag filled to date.

The team had a visit today from Michael, he was one of the first volunteers when the Friends started back in 2011. He came in to look at his great grandparents grave, his sister who had come into the cemetery looking for the grave a few months ago told him that the end kerb and two posts had been pushed out of position and needed to be cemented and put back together. This was the Perry 9-11 grave that was cemented back into position two weeks ago, and Michael was pleased to see it back together, he said he has recently retired and depending on the weather he will come in next week to give us a hand.
