Diary: Sunday 10 August 2025

Rita, Alan and Astrid working in the shade in the cemetery today (10 August 2025). Rita & Alan arrived early to find that the Rookley grave B68 had been disturbed again, conclusion is ‘Mr Badger’ is looking for worms! This was again put right by Alan while Rita took the ivy of the Goldie B60 grave and did a tidy up in the wild flower area.

Alan & Rita worked on the Porter B78 grave, the inside was cleared of grass, the stone chipping inside the grave was swept to the centre so the long kerbs could be pulled back, the chipping between the kerbs and cemented centre was cleaned out so the kerbs fitted nice and snug back into position. The small laid down headstone was straightened and the large ants nest against the headstone was dug up. The kerbs are ready to be cemented back into place but it was too hot so a place in the shade was found for a tea break where Astrid joined them after she had finished picking some elderberries.

Elder saplings were growing all around a Yew tree at the rear of the houses in Wembdon Road, Astrid and Rita cut these back filling a dumpy bag.

Alan was clearing the brambles growing out of the hedge just along from where the girls were working. Three dumpy bags were filled altogether and all taken up to the storage area.

All the old rubbish bags had been cleared by the Grass cutting team and the grass had been cut, so thank you to the guys from the Town Council who are doing a great job for us.

A very hot day, grateful for the trees to shade us, sadly two of the new trees planted last year are not looking too good at the moment, a bit of rain would help but it won’t be coming just yet.

We hope Dave enjoyed his day out to the cricket today and look forward to seeing him next week.
