Diary: Sunday 24 August 2025

Dave, Michael, Alan, Rita, Chris and Maz in the cemetery today (24 August 2025). The first job for Alan was to tidy the Rookley B68 yet again as the badger is insistent on trying to get the black membrane out from under the stone chipping.

Michael sieved the stone chipping in the Porter grave, then he and Dave weeded the Walford grave B79 and dug out the stone chipping that Alan then washed and sieved with the help of Maz.

Chris and Alan were cementing today, working hard and cementing kerbs and posts to the Porter B78 and Smith B80 graves.

Dave and Michael then worked in the shade and finished clipping the large hedge started last week.

Rita cleaned out the weeds from the Hill grave A15, watered the ‘new’ trees and showed Maz around the cemetery as this was her first visit, we hope she can come along again.

It was nice to see one of our members (Sue) who comes in the cemetery quite regularly ensuring there is water pots dotted around the cemetery for the wildlife and birds, they definitely need it this time of year.

With the ground so dry and the grass dried up we could see the edge of the Lowton headstone C63 which had sunk really deep on one side into the ground. The website photo only showed half of the headstone inscription, someone thought it would be a good idea to peel back the grass and earth and take a better photo of the headstone as it was a good chance to do so. Everyone chipped in to help, it was not quite so easy as first thought but the stone was uncovered, a photo taken and all put back as before. Chris and Alan dug up a few more ant hills encroaching on nearby graves using the earth to infill on the Lowton grave.

Everyone taking a day off next week.
