Working in the cemetery today was Dave, Chris, Rita, Alan, and Astrid (21 September 2021).

Astrid started work on the wild flower garden, weeding and planting Birdsfoot Trefoil, wild Geranium, wild cyclamen plus a few more plants, filling half a dumpy bag of weeds, she then joined Rita and Dave cleaning out weeds and grass from graves nearby.

Dave and Rita concentrated on cleaning graves, they started on the Street B76 and were pleased on how this looked when they had finished. They then moved on to the Harden B17, Sheppard B21, Allen B16, and Phillips B14 taking out the weeds, raking the stones and brushing down the kerbs as they went, filling half a dumpy bag of weeds.

Chris came in the cemetery earlier in the week and started work on the Wood B25, this grave is in very poor condition. The grave was very overgrown with the kerbs and posts out of position and the centre slab broken in a number of pieces and sunk deep into the grave. Chris started by digging out the ant hills that had taken over areas of the grave and started to dig out the earth to expose the sunken concrete centre slab.
Alan and Chris concentrated their efforts today on digging out three barrow loads of earth that was covering the broken pieces of the centre slab, and storing it nearby. The slabs were removed and the earth put back enabling the broken slabs to be put back in position. The kerbs and posts were put temporarily back into position and will be cemented back together when next in the cemetery. Stone chipping will then be added to the grave to improve the visual appearance. Photo’s were taken during this process, although not finished it was felt the boys should be proud of what they have achieved today.
