Two diaries for the end of October 2025. Alan & Rita were unable to work in the cemetery on Sunday, they had got ready, the car was packed up and all ready to go but the car wasn’t! The car battery died so had to call out the recovery company that took several hours to arrive, too late to go to the cemetery.
As they did not go in on Sunday they decided to do a catch up and went in on Thursday to work on the Gray B31 grave started on the 12th October.
Thursday’s job was to put back the broken pieces of the centre concrete slab. This turned out to be more difficult than expected as the slab had been repaired at some time making it hard to link the various pieces together. It didn’t help that the pieces varied in thickness. Alan remembered that there were some nice pieces of concrete slab and marble that Chris had brought in some time ago and were used to pack under the slabs to get a reasonable level. This took far longer than expected.
While Alan was packing the concrete pieces level, Rita started to clean out the moss and weeds from the B40 Hancock grave that is immediately in front of the Gray grave.

On the Friday Alan went in to finish off the Gray grave. His first task was to visit Cannington Quarry to purchase stone chipping for the grave. Back in the cemetery he unloaded the stone but then had to get back in the car for 20 minutes due to a heavy shower of rain. (At least he had a tea break!) He then placed black membrane on top of the ‘jigsaw’ of stones in the centre of the grave and returned the small amount of old granite stone chipping salvaged from the grave when work first started. He then laid down the new stone chipping and took a photo of the completed work. As he took the photo the rain began again so he made a hasty retreat for home. Even the journey home took longer than expected, due to accidents on the motorway the town was gridlocked with traffic!
