Back to a full house in the cemetery today (6 September 2026) with Chris, Astrid, Alan and Rita.
Alan & Rita arrived early and proceeded to put up the banner on the cemetery railings advertising Heritage Open Day, that done they decided to trim back the hedge protruding into the pavement outside.
Next job was to sweep up all the leaves that were lying along the front of the cemetery and in the road blocking up both drains. All clear now so if we do have any heavy showers the rain won’t build up and come into the cemetery like a river.
Next down to some proper work, Alan and Chris went into Plan G where Alan managed to finish digging the hole he started last Sunday and went in Tuesday to finish it off. They set to work on installing the new memorial that will be unveiled next Sunday when our Chairman takes visitors on a tour around the cemetery.
Astrid and Rita had a quick walk around the cemetery then Astrid weeded the Bond H18 grave and Rita tidied up the Duke 6-78 grave. While Alan did the finishing touches to the new memorial Chris and Rita weeded the Tucker B66 grave that was full of grass and weeds and Astrid came over to assist when she had finished clearing the Creedy grave.
Alan did some work on the Spiller grave, although it was only cleared of brambles a few weeks ago they were back!
Two tea breaks today so when they packed up their tools, did a tour of the cemetery filling a sack with rubbish that had been spread around the cemetery, and made their way home.
