Alan and Rita working in the cemetery today (9 August 2026). While they felt fresh and strong they dragged the two dumpy bags filled last week up to the dumping area – a lovely surprise, all the full bags had been emptied and the tree branches all gone. Many thanks to the Town Council grounds team for doing a grand job, at least they had a day off from cutting grass as there was none growing! There did look less greenery in the graves though.
After the exercise of walking the whole length of the cemetery with the dumpy bags and bringing a couple of empty ones back Alan & Rita set to work on cutting back all the saplings from the two large trees at the very front of the cemetery. Photographs of before and after were taken.
Two visitors in today, one gentleman interested in First World War graves, we did mention to him that if he became a member he would be able to read all about the WW1 graves we have in the cemetery, and interesting biographies on them.
The other gentleman lived close by, he said how he and his family loved to come in the cemetery and walk around as it was so peaceful and quiet.
It was very quiet today, very few birds about and the team haven’t seen a Robin at all this year which is unusual.
Anyway, after clearing up the cut back saplings and picking up lots of twigs lying about two more full dumpy bags were taken over to the dumping area, then Alan and Rita made their way home.
