Another hot and sunny day (23 August 2026), Alan and Rita arrived bright and early as they needed to finish earlier this week, and Astrid joined us tea break time. It was another session for working in the shade and it was decided to keep to the front of the cemetery to tidy up.
Rita started under the large Hazel tree that was growing out of the Euonymus tree and saplings from the Hazel needed to be cut back. Ivy, Holly saplings and a few brambles were amongst the undergrowth. After Rita had been working for half an hour Alan asked if before photos had been taken, sadly the answer was No, so the before photos were taken a bit late.
Alan started on the trees next to the house on Wembdon Road and had done a fair bit of clearing before the photographs were taken but at least there is a big difference to be seen on the work he had done.
Astrid assisted in picking up and debris and filling two dumpy bags that Alan then took over to the storage dumping area.
Tools were packed up then all three did a walk around the cemetery to check things over, picking up a load of litter on their way around. Everything is brown, the trees are looking droopy but as the forecast is looking like a few good days of rain later in the week, hopefully this will perk them up.
This weekend was the town's Flower Show that Chris is involved with so hopefully he will be back with us again next week.
Lots to do as in two week’s time is Heritage Week, our Chairman, Miles, will be with us to do a Walking Tour of the cemetery on Sunday 13th September at 10.30 am, this is always very informative so we hope the weather will be fine.
