3rd Australian Machine Gun Battalion
Henry Morgan was born in 1894 in Bridgwater, son of Charles and Ellen Morgan. In 1911 he lived with his parents in Haygrove and was learning to be a farmer, his father was the manager in the Collar factory in town. By the age of 22 he had put his education to use and was a living as a farmer in Gunnedah, New South Wales, Australia. He enlisted on 18 May 1916 and embarked from Sydney in October, becoming a private in the Australian Machine Gun Corps.
On the first of May 1918 the Bridgwater Mercury reported how 'Local Australian seriously gassed' while serving in France and was in New Court V.A.D. Hospital in Cheltenham. He died from poisoning on 8 May 1918. On the 15 May this was reported in the Mercury with a small biography of Henry. On 5 June 1918 the Mercury reported how a tribute had been erected over his new grave in the Wembdon Road Cemetery.
