Second Lieutenant, Royal Navy
Born May 14 1877 in Pen-y-craigh, Glamorgan, son of Charles Oliver J. Bown and Alpha Jane Bown (Walden).
Oliver was married to Amelia Jane Phillips, had two sons, Oliver Clifford Bown and Ernest Charles Guy Bown.
Olivers siblings were Alpha Annie Bown, Jemima Florence Bown, Guy Bown, William Ernest Bown, Joseph Clifford Bown, Mabel A. Bown plus 1 other.
In 1901 he was living with his parents at Andersea, Westonzoyland working as an engineer for W & F Wills in Bridgwater and it is understood he designed and built a unique water jet mud dredger used in the River Parrett.
In 1911 he was living with his wife and two sons at 37 Cranleigh Gardens, and was Foreman of machine and fitting shop, presumably at W & F Wills
During the war he was engineer in charge of the seaplane base at Bembridge, messing at the nearby Spithead Hotel with rank of Chief Petty Officer, promoted to Second Lieutenant in 1918? And mentioned in despatches.
He died 9th April 1919 aged 41 years shortly after the end of the war after a failed gallstone operation in Bridgwater Hospital.
He is buried in Wembdon Road Cemetery.
