The Ricks Memorial G44/1335

The Ricks Memorial was repaired in Summer 2017 by Fine Memorials for Tamlyns Chartered Surveyors, Valuers and Auctioneers of Bridgwater

The inscription on this memorial reads: 44/1335 Sacred to the Memory of Annie Ethel the beloved child of George and Annie Ricks born June 18th 1878 died Sept. 30th 1879. Suffer the little children unto me. In Loving Memory of Cyril Gordon Ricks who lost his life in the foundering of S.S. Titanic April 15th 1912 aged 22 years. Buried at sea. Thy will be done. Also of Reginald Ricks who died in infancy.

The Ricks memorial commemorates Cyril Ricks, who was drowned while serving on the RMS Titanic in 1911. For this historic reason the Friends decided to repair his memorial in 2017 and the work was very kindly funded by Tamlyn's Auctioneers of Bridgwater. Cyril's sister, Winifred Alice was married to the company's founder, William Tamlyn, so they were keen to mark this connection.

The base of the memorial had come loose and its cross had disappeared. Fortunately Fine Memorial were able to supply a replacement and secure everything into place. All of this work was carried out on 23 August 2017. A rededication ceremony was held in the following year, with Tamlyns and the vicar of St Mary's church attending.
