The Bowden Memorial was repaired in 2021 by Fine Memorials for the Friends of the Wembdon Road Cemetery
Above is a picture of the Bowden Memorial as first found when the cemetery was surveyed in 2008. An impressive rough-hewn granite block had lost its cross. This was propped up behind it. The inscription reads: In Memory of William Bowden dearly loved husband of Lucy Bowden who died May 22nd 1932 aged 73 years. Also of Lucy Bowden who died February 25th 1939 aged 78 years. Until the day break and the shadows fade away.
This memorial was selected for repair as it was in an area the Friends volunteers were working hard to improve, having concentrated a lot of effort into the Dunsford corner. After the Friends had cleared this area the memorial looked a little more respectable, as you'll see below. Fine Memorials first job was to secure the foundation of the memorial setting both the block and the kerbs on a solid grounding.
After this it was a simple matter of pinning and mortaring the cross back into place. Once Fine Memorials had completed their work, the Friends volunteers improved the kerbs, laid membrane to stop weeds, and then added new stone chippings from Cannington Quarry.
