The Helen Elizabeth Jones Memorial was repaired in 2019 by Fine Memorials for the Friends of the Wembdon Road Cemetery
Above is a picture of the memorial as it was found when we first surveyed the cemetery in 2008. It takes the form of a delicate floral gothic cross. You can see here that the lower portion is already laminated behind the text and soon to explode away. Fortunately we were able to record the inscription before this was lost. The inscription read: To the Memory of Helen Elizabeth the beloved wife of the Rev R. I. Jones who died at Horshipton September 21st 1884 aged 26 years.
In 2019 the Friends Volunteers decided on this memorials repair, as it was an attractive cross and in part of the cemetery we were working on, focused around the Tucker obelisk. Bringing this memorial back to life would help enhance this effort.
The memorial was raised by Fine Memorials. Having re-firmed the foundation they cemented the plinth back into place, before pinning the cross back into position. Also weather has worn away chunks of this stone, it can stand again with some dignity and age more appropriately over the coming seasons. The team at Fine Memorials were also able to retrieve some of the carved fragments and reattach them.
