The Lillian Norris Memorial B69/165

The memorial for Lillian (Peter) Norris (Nee Wells), was repaired in June 2021 for Mrs Lucas.

The Wells Memorial as found in 2008 above, then after the volunteers of the Friends had tidied this area. Although you would not think it from these pictures, the memorial is made of white marble. The letters are made from soft lead.

The Norris memorial is a modest inter-war headstone, which was presumably toppled after its cement footing gave out. Behind this memorial once stood the lodge of the Anglican Chapel. The memorial reads: Sacred to the memory of Lillian (Peter) Norris (Nee Wells) 22nd May 1883 29th August 1922. Next to this one is the memorial of Emily Wells, mother of Lillian, whose memorial we hope to repair once we find a suitable replacement cross (postscript - this was carried out in March 2023 - read about it here).

The memorial was easy enough for Fine Memorials to cement and pin back into place, after which the Friends volunteers set about cleaning the stone, which came up a brilliant white.

The repair before cleaning, the recently applied cement residue can be seen there. The Friends volunteers also levelled the inside of the kerbs, making everything much neater.
