Private Thomas Davey died in the Korean War, on the 21st of June 1951, aged only 21 years old.
This extract from the Bridgwater Mercury for June 1951 reports on his death:
News of the death in Korea of their 21 year old son, Private Thomas W. A. Davey, has been received by Mr and Mrs Charles Davey of 17 Kidsbury Road. About a week previously they were informed that he had been wounded in both legs by shrapnel and a later message stated he was progressing in hospital. Before joining the army Private Davey was a member of the St John Ambulance Brigade and employed by Messrs. Pollard & Sons. His father was seriously ill in Bridgwater Hospital when the sad news was received.
Thomas Davey was apparently serving in the Kings Shropshire Light Infantry, and killed after only three weeks after arriving in the war zone. The KSLI arrived in Korea in May 1951. He was probably killed in the fierce fighting along the River Imjin, where UN and North Korean forces fought to a stalemate.
