Alan and Rita arrived in the cemetery as the sun came out, followed by Astrid and Miles our chairman who was welcomed with a pair of loppers as soon as he arrived, and not long after Chris arrived and he was welcomed back after a few weeks away, now fit and well. Astrid, Miles and Rita started to trim back the overgrown Euonymous tree along the boundary fence at the far end of the cemetery towards Provident Place, last trimmed by Miles about 3 years ago. Alan and Chris were trimming a large fir tree close by. This kept the group quiet until tea break, filling four dumpy bags and hauling them over to the storage area. The area under both trees was also cleared and before cutting started it was ensured that there were no birds nests in the process of being built, even though it was only the saplings and hanging branches that were cleared. Miles left with Astrid about mid day as he was off to Bristol to get the plane back home to Glasgow. The rest of the group then cleared nettles, brambles and weeds etc. along the perimeter fence where two large fir trees were felled a couple of years ago, a lot of debris was left behind the area now looks a lot tidier.
Dave was unable to be with us this week and we hope will soon be well enough to be back soon.
A very busy morning with a lot to show for our hard work, having filled 6 dumpy bags altogether, and a quiet walk around the cemetery before leaving for home.
