Diary: Sunday 4 December 2022

Dave, Chris and Alan in the cemetery today (4 December 2022), although a little cold it was dry. Rita does not like the cold so stayed at home updating the cemetery data base. Astrid and Felix popped in to see what the boys were up to, she hopes to be fit in a few weeks.

The planned work today was to concentrate on the Jarvis 4-20 and Ayres/Whiby 8-36, both graves had sunk down on one side. Chris had worked hard last week to dig around the Jarvis grave exposing the concrete base slab so it was a relatively easy job to lever the side up until it was level then packed back filling with earth. The kerbs and posts need to be cemented back together and the grave will look as good as new, but that will have to wait a while.

They then moved over to the Ayres/Whitby grave, a lot of digging was required before it was ready to be levered level and packed, a much bigger job than first thought. The boys toiled away and the sunken side was finally levelled and packed. Like the Jarvis grave, all the kerbs and posts were loose and will need to be cemented back together. The boys were pleased with their efforts today.
