Diary: Sunday 4 June 2023

Alan, Rita, Astrid, Dave and Chris in the cemetery today (4 June 2023). Alan, Rita, Astrid and Dave in early, thought we would let Chris have a lie in today. While Alan got the buggy ready to take dumpy bags to the storage area, Astrid, Rita and Dave cleared an area behind the second house in Wembdon Road, Dave dug a small trench, Rita planted poppy plants and Astrid watered them.

Dave and Alan made their way over to the North side of the cemetery, on their way they were stopped by Marie and her daughter from Plymouth, who only last year found the Dunsford graves she had been looking for and was delighted to have found them. Her grandmother was a cousin to the children who died in the house fire and never forgot them and told her all about the family. They came into the cemetery yesterday but popped in today to lay flowers on the graves, and hoping to meet and thank the Friends for looking after the graves. It was nice to chat with them and glad they eventually found their family graves.

Dave and Chris worked hard on the North side of the cemetery, Chris cutting back the Euonymus tree and  overhanging branches on the fir tree. Dave tidying graves (Evis and Silver).  Alan moving 9 dumpy bags over to the storage area and assisted Dave and Chris by picking up the cut branches and debris.

As the Yew trees next to the Dunsford graves were very overgrown and in the shade, Astrid and Rita decided to tidy this area up, and actually remembered to take a before and after photo!

After completing this job Astrid left for home, the ‘boys’ were still working so Rita moved over to a nearby Sycamore tree, also in the shade, and cut back the saplings that had grown up, didn’t quite manage to finish the job as the boys were ready for home.
