Friday 8 March
Alan went to the cemetery today as the weather was fine. Rita & Alan had an enquiry from a family looking for their grandfathers resting place. This was found but sadly there were no markers, luckily just in front of the grave space there was a grave with kerbs and name (Annie Limmer) so we could identify exactly where the grandfather was buried. A map was sent to the family to make it easier for them to find. Alan checked to see what condition the Limmer grave was in and sadly it was completely covered in earth and grass and when Alan uncovered it found the kerbs to be broken in many pieces. He did his best to re-assemble the kerbs to form an outline of the grave.
Alan then moved down to the Rossiter grave where the team had been working on for sometime.
He chipped off the old cement joints to the kerbs, there is only two posts, the others appear to be missing. The inner concrete slab which was broken in three pieces has a large corner piece missing at one end. Alan took photo's of the two graves he worked on and of the beautiful display of daffodils out in bloom.
Sunday 10 March
Alan, Astrid and Rita working in the cemetery today. Alan continued his task of working on the Rossiter N24 grave cementing the kerbs and two posts back into position. Only the missing part of the inner slab to be concreted in and stone chipping to be laid on top.
Meanwhile Astrid and Rita worked at the front of the cemetery taking off the ivy that had grown up right to the top of the side extension of the house next to the cemetery. The occupants were informed of what we were doing and were pleased that it was being removed. The girls also cleared a mass of brambles that had grown high up into the trees, filling two dumpy bags one of ivy and the other of brambles.
Astrid then planted a Peace rose on the edge of flower garden area on the border of sections A & B close to the neighbours back fence.
A good mornings work.
