Alan, Astrid and Chris working in the cemetery today (Sunday 7 April 2024). Today the team worked in Plan 14 and started on Haines 14-5 grave, completely taken over by earth and grass with the two end kerbs broken. Due to recent rain the ground was really wet and sticky, the earth around the kerbs was dug away exposing the kerbs, they were packed level but due to the wet conditions it was not practical to cement them back together. This will have to wait until the weather gets better.
The Young grave next door 14-6, had one post that had been pushed out of position, this was dug out and put back in position ready for cementing when we get some dry and sunny weather.
Chris and Alan moved over to the Pitman grave 14-22 this was a large laid down headstone that at one time was attached to a base plinth. The first job was to level and pack the plinth, and next was to line up the headstone with the plinth. This went a lot easier than anticipated and looked a lot smarter than it did before.
Meanwhile Astrid worked on the Southwood 14-14 grave that had been completely covered with ivy, she did an excellent job and cleaned it up nicely. Astrid remembered to take a before and after photo. Well done.
A good mornings work and luckily the rain held off.
