Diary:Sunday 9 June 2024

A sunny day (9 June 2024) turning a bit cloudy for the workers Chris, Alan, Rita, and Dave.

First job was to find the buddleia along the Pantomime wall, mark where they were and cut the long grass. So few left we didn’t want to make a mistake and cut any hidden in the grass! This was soon done and a dumpy bag filled. Stakes were put around the plants and red/white tape put around so they can be seen easily and not cut down when the grass grows again.

Then we gave the wild flower area a tidy up, Chris trimmed back the two bushes against the neighbours fence, Dave watered the rose bush and lavender planted last week, Rita weeded and Alan cut the grass.

After a quick tea break the boys left Rita weeding and they moved over to Section N and looked for the Taylor grave N-8 that was next to a dog walking path and had become completely overgrown with grass. After a lot of prodding the ground the grave was eventually found. The kerbs and posts were exposed and unfortunately one of the long kerbs was badly damaged having been broken in a number of places. There was also a heart shaped plaque for Vearncombe N-9 which had been placed inside the grave for safe keeping, although broken you could read the inscription.

Looking for the Taylor memorial.
Taylor in Progress and Finished

A lot of work needed here to cement the kerbs and posts back together.

Meanwhile Rita went over to finish clearing around the trees started last week, there was so much ivy around one of the trees that it nearly filled another dumpy bag.

A productive day and we all went home tired.
