Diary: Sunday 23 June 2024

Dave, Rita, Alan and Chris all beavering away in the cemetery today (23 June 2024). Perfect weather but a little too warm to finish cementing the Taylor grave as large chunks of cement are needed to repair the kerb. A big thank you to Dave and his Town Council work team for cutting the grass, lovely to come in the front gate and have such a nice view of the cemetery with the grass cut.

First job, Alan set to work clearing the Holley grave N13 and Rita set to work clearing the Manchip grave 11-50. Dave and Chris arrived and worked with Alan cleaning and levelling up the sunken kerbs and finally cementing the kerbs back together of the Holley grave. They then moved on to the Manchip grave that Rita had cleared and set about cementing the long side kerb, the short end kerb and posts back into position.

Meanwhile Rita cleared the ivy off the Euonymus tree nearby and then moved on the large fir tree just behind. Alan and Dave moved over to work on the Greenslade N5 started last week and cemented the short kerb and post back into position. Chris gave a helping hand to Rita working on the fir tree which looked so much better with a trim and ivy taken off.

A young couple came to look around the cemetery and were interested in the grave covered in large rocks which was the Spiller grave. Rita explained that Joel Spiller did not want to be buried underground so he was placed in a brick kiln and the large rocks were placed around and on top of the kiln, which makes this a very interesting grave.

Photos were taken before leaving for home. Another good work session.
