Diary: Sunday 14 July 2024

Dave, Alan and Rita in the cemetery today (14 July 2024). Alan cleared weeds and grass that had grown up in front of the flower area not knowing that when Dave arrived a few minutes later he had brought in a Lavender bush, and other plants, so the ground was all ready for planting! A job that Dave with Rita’s help was soon completed. We noticed that the Peace rose was coming into bud, the first bloom not quite out yet.

Work then began in Plan K, Dave worked on the Pear K24 grave that was filled with grass, he dug out all the grass and Dave and Alan cemented the loose end kerb and two posts back into position.

While Dave was cleaning out the Pear grave, Alan started work on the Hill K5 grave where one of the red granite kerb posts had come apart from the kerbs. Alan cleaned of the old cement, levelled the area and cemented the post back into position.

Rita was working under a nearby tree cutting back the saplings and taking off the ivy. Two bags of debris was filled and taken over to the rubbish pile.

We had a lovely surprise when we saw Astrid hobbling along on her crutches to pay us a visit. It was lovely to see her, she is making good progress but not good enough for her! Sadly with two crutches there was no job we could give her to do, but gave her a seat and had a chat before she left for the marathon hobble home.
