Just Alan and Dave in the cemetery today ( 25 August 2024). Alan wanted to come in early, it was too early for Rita so she was left at home in bed.
Alan planned to go in to cut back the undergrowth along the neighbours hedge that they kindly cut back. The undergrowth was thick and packed with brambles, but with his mattock it was not long before the roots and undergrowth was dug out and put in neat piles ready to be picked up and put in the dumpy bags later.
He then moved over to where we were working last Sunday cutting up the branches and brambles from the neighbours hedge that had been left in neat piles. Thanks to the Town Council boys the bags have been emptied so we could start filling them up again. Alan managed to fill two dumpy bags, the first one was completely filled with brambles and the other one with branches. Just as he had finished Dave arrived and they made their way over to the double Bale grave M76 & M90 that Alan started on Wednesday.
The crazy paving design on this grave must have looked very special when first installed but unfortunately overtime it had sunk badly and was now in a sad state.
Alan and Dave agreed that the kerbs should be sorted out first, all were loose and pushed out of position and sunk into the ground. The kerbs were levered up, packed and aligned and now looking a lot better. The kerbs and posts need to be cemented back together but this would take a few hours so will have to be completed at a later date.
Due to the state of the crazy paving it will not be possible to re-instate at this time, once the kerbs are cemented together and set, all the pieces will be laid back in both graves and stone chipping laid on top. Not ideal, but will improve the look of the grave.
Should someone in the future wish to restore the crazy paving, all the original pieces will be found under the stone chipping.
