Just Alan and Rita working in the cemetery today (10 November 2024), wishing Dave a speedy recovery from his heavy cold. It turned out to be quite a nice day and much to our surprise the sun came out – only for 10 minutes – but it cheered us up.
Alan spent the morning working on the Roberts M56 grave mixing up cement and aligning the broken kerbs, cementing the layer of bricks that were supporting the kerbs, and finally cementing the kerbs into position. A tricky job but as usual it has to be perfect as the team knows!
All that needs to be done now is to cement over where the gap between the headstone and the base of the inner grave has dropped.
Meanwhile Rita weeded and tidied up a few graves, the Webber M29, Squibbs M2 and the Hunt M1. There were four dumpy bags now waiting to be moved over to the storage pile. Sadly too heavy for Rita and Alan to move, especially after a hard working morning, but they did manage to take one over. The others will need to be unloaded into another bag when we have time.
It was nice to have a chat with Sue a member of the Friends, with her little dog, they like to check there is water in the containers that are dotted around the cemetery for the birds to drink, she is very kind. Sue also checked that the war memorials all had a poppy on them, we told her we stopped at 11 o'clock for 2 minutes silence. (Yes Rita can keep quiet for that long – just!)
