Alan and Rita went in the cemetery today (29 December 2024) as we received a message from Chris that the occupants had gone from the cemetery and left a considerable amount of rubbish and mess behind.
Photos were taken and then the clean up started. They bagged up tents, groundsheets, curtains, blankets, loads of clothing and other rubbish and debris – all wet and disgusting. Two dumpy bags, several black bags and other bags that were left behind were filled, these were tied up with red and white tape to indicate hazard contents. There were also a number of needles and drug related items and two needle boxes which the occupants had used. We had our own box given previously by the Council. We have notified the Council regarding the needles asking where we can dispose of them. We have asked the council if they can remove the rubbish as soon as possible.
After the clean up and photos taken Alan & Rita went over to the large fallen tree. The council have been in and removed all the greenery and cut up the trunk and large branches. The big root and section of the trunk are still in place, tangled up with the chain link fence and the neighbours wooden fence panels. Alan and Rita have emailed the councils Environmental Manager responsible for the cemetery to ask if he can let the Friends know what the plans are regarding the tree root.
