Just Alan and Rita in the cemetery today (19 July 2026), due to the very hot weather last weekend everyone decided to stay home, just a bit cooler today, but not much!
As we arrived, saw the grass brown and burnt up with the sun, but the insides of the graves were all nice and green – with weeds! So, while Alan unloaded the car, Rita started to weed the A23 Wood grave, Alan did the Horman A29, then they did the Goodland B43, Facey A47 and Hill A15, no before or after photographs were taken as they didn’t intend to work here in the sun but they got a bit carried away.
They noticed on the other side of the path where they were working the branch of a dead holly tree was sagging down to the ground. Out came the saw and Alan cut the branch off and tidied up other bits that were a bit low. Weeds and dead wood picked up and put in a dumpy bag.
Getting a bit too warm, they moved over to Plan 9 and worked under the trees taking off the ivy where it was nice and shady. Before and after photographs taken.
Not far from where they were working, was the Dodden grave 9-42 where all the kerbs and posts had come apart as a result of a large tree that fell last year. No damage was done to the memorial, just all the joints had been pushed apart. This grave is a relative of one of our members and had been repaired a number of years ago. Alan decided he would chip off the old cement on the kerbs and posts, this went well and is now ready for cementing back together when the weather is a bit cooler (hopefully before winter!)
Alan dragged the filled dumpy bag across to the storage area, and agreed it was time to make their way home.
