Diary Sunday 24 March 2024

Full house, Chris, Dave, Astrid, Alan and Rita all working hard in the cemetery today (24 March 2024). A bit chilly to start with but soon warmed up when we started working and coats were off when the sun came out!

Astrid and Rita working in the front of the cemetery and cleared all the bramble and ivy amongst the saplings growing between the cemetery and the house next door. This area has not really been touched much until now so we were surprised to see what a difference it made. Another dumpy bag filled.

The boys were finishing off the Letherby grave, the old joints were cleaned off and the kerbs and the posts were cemented back together. Stone chipping laid and earth spread around the sides to tidy the area, as still a bit muddy. Photo taken.

They then moved over to the Hamblin grave N27 a grave that had been completely taken over by grass and ant hills. The grave was cleared and the graves kerbs and small end engraved slab exposed. Still a little more work to be done on the over site concrete slab plus clean some green glass chipping stones that are remaining in the grave.

Work was started on the Taylor N28 grave, the grave was first tidied by the Friends 10 years ago but was now in a sorry state. The grave was completely covered over by grass and earth, clearing this away it uncovered broken kerbs and the laid down headstone had been pushed to one side. The task now will be to try and put back together the best we can.

Although another productive morning a little disappointing when the Taylor grave was uncovered.
