Something that has not been able to happen for a long time due to rain and hot weather but today (9 September 2026) we have a mid-week diary for you.
As the cemetery is open this Sunday for Heritage Day (Walking Tour at 10.30 a.m. to 11.30 a.m.) Alan & Rita thought they really ought to try and get rid of a few of the weeds that we have an abundance of in the cemetery graves. Shame it’s not lovely flowers but saying that there are a few flowers, white Autumn crocus popping up near the front of the cemetery and a photo taken of a few of them.
The grass cutting team have been in cutting the grass and inside the graves, thank you ‘boys’ looks lovely for the tour on Sunday.
Alan & Rita then set to weeding graves along the front path, too many to list the names but there about 12 in this area. Then to rest her back a bit Rita went into plan F to take ivy off a grave and cut back a holly bush growing amongst the graves, leaving Alan to the weeding which he loves doing (not!).
They then toured around the cemetery cleaning graves here and there picking up litter when they had a welcome visitor, Miles our chairman has arrived from Glasgow so we had a walk around with him.
Miles gave us our book “The Women of Bridgwater” written by Clare Spicer and Jillian Trethewey, the biographies on the lives of 65 girls and women who are buried in the cemetery. It uncovers nearly two centuries of the town’s history from the 1760s to the end of the Second World War.
