Diary: Sunday 27 September 2026

Alan, Rita and Chris in the cemetery today (27 September 2026). Thanks to Chris for ‘holding the fort’ while Alan & Rita had a well-earned holiday. Today’s forecast was heavy rain showers, but we have long since disregarded the forecasts and just as well as no rain fell on us today.

Alan and  Rita arrived early just in case it did rain and Chris came in a little later. The team set to work and carried on the good work that Chris started last week working in G Section.

The Kelland G110 was cleared of grass and weeds, Bond G89 and Baker G111 had the grass cleared around the graves and stone cleaned.

Alan and Chris then began working on the Jones G62 which was in a poor condition, the two end kerbs were fallen out of position and one of the long kerbs broken and also out of position. Priority was to ensure the kerbs were level and slate was used. The three tier blocks had sunk to one side, and these will also need to be packed level prior to the kerbs being cemented together. To ensure the kerbs were safe they were supported by bricks to stop any movement. Cementing the kerbs together will take time and will need fine weather.

Meanwhile Rita worked on the Stacey grave G88 clearing the ivy and weeds, and cleaning the small headstone, Alan and Chris dug out the ant hills and stored the earth for future use.  A lot more work needed on this grave to sort the kerbs and level the headstone.

Rita then moved over to the yew trees and cleared ivy, brambles, saplings and as much of the dead twigs that she could reach that were hanging out of the yew trees.

Coming up to dinner time and looking at the darkening clouds it was decided to pack up the tools and make for home.
