Diary: Sunday 4 July 2021

The weather forecast was possible heavy showers during the morning, but Astrid, Alan and Rita decided to take a risk and glad they did, it turned out to be hot and humid. SDC had been in and cut the grass so the cemetery was looking good. Fine Memorials had completed their work on the H22 Boulting and B69 Norris graves. It was agreed to concentrate their efforts this morning on the Boulting grave. While Alan and Astrid weeded the inside of the grave, Rita went up to the wild flower area and planted a few more seedlings, (sadly all the sunflowers we planted had been eaten!). Back to the Boulting grave and black membrane was laid down and granite chipping, kindly donated by Fine Memorial, were placed on top of the membrane. They all then moved over to the Norris grave B69 which was weeded, Alan scrubbed the headstone and kerbs with assistance from Rita, and the stone came up really nice. Astrid started work cleaning the Wells B70 grave that has a full set of kerbs and three tier blocks, unfortunately the cross is missing. Alan assisted Astrid cleaning the tiers which has exposed the inscription but more elbow grease needs to be done to bring it up to the same condition as the Norris headstone next door. Due to the sky darkening over they decided to make a move and the rain started as they drove off on their way home.
