Alan, Rita, Astrid, Dave and Chris D. in the cemetery today (4 February 2024). Nice to have Chris back working with us. The girls were trimming low branches from a large fir tree, filling a dumpy bag, they then moved over to the large bramble bush on the North end of the cemetery and started to trim this back, lots of dead wood and old nettles and brambles cleared, another dumpy bag filled.
Meanwhile the boys set to work on the Letherby 14-4 grave overgrown with grass and old ants nests. After a lot of digging the concrete slab was exposed and the kerbs and posts were uncovered and the ant hills removed. Kerbs and post were cleaned up and fitted back into position ready to be cemented back together when the weather improves.
They then moved over to the Rossiter grave N24 that was in a sorry state with a small end kerb missing and one of the long kerbs broken, plus three posts also missing. The grave was covered in ivy and grass, and the concrete slab is broken and sunk into the grave.
Working slowly and carefully the concrete slab was uncovered and the buried kerbs were placed on top. A lot more work yet to be done to put this grave back into some kind of order.
