Diary: Sunday 28th June 2026

Another fine day for working in the cemetery, although rain was forecast, none arrived! In the cemetery today was Alan, Rita and Chris, Astrid came in for a short while and we were especially pleased to see Dave who came in to visit, and unable to work due to having a bad knee.

Rita cleared the Crocker 7-65 and Ashton 7-58 graves of bindweed, grass and weeds before the sun came fully out, she then went in the shade and cleared ivy from the Rawlings grave 8-23 and the trees behind the grave.  When Astrid arrived she cleared the ivy from the Broom 8-32 grave.

Alan and Chris worked on the laid down slate headstone of Robert and Ann Hawkes sadly in a poor state but the inscription can be easily read. The headstone had been hit quite a while ago, on its bottom side corner, where the slate has begun to split up. It is lying at a slight angle within the low kerbs but the boys felt if straightened up it could cause more damage to the headstone. A block of stone has been placed by the grave to avoid any further damage as the grave is under a fir tree which had dropped seeds etc and nearly covered the whole grave over making it difficult to see.

Alan & Chris spent the rest of the morning trimming the low branches of the trees in the non-conformist area to head height to give a better view across the cemetery. They did a great job filling 6 bags of tree trimmings and taking over to the rubbish pile.

Another productive morning.
